Indie bard presents fresh album full of musical splendour
Bonnie “Prince” Billy – the alter ego of American songwriter Will Oldham (see too: Palace, Palace Brothers, Palace Music, ...) – comes to AB to present his new album We Are Together Again.
On this album, Oldham reflects on a changing world and on what remains when familiar structures disappear. Bonnie “Prince” Billy focuses on collaboration, friendship and community, and emphasises the importance of music creation as a collective act. Not as a denial of loss or decline, but as an intentional decision to remain creative and connected.
The album was recorded at End of an Ear Studios in Louisville, Kentucky, and continues Oldham’s recent trajectory where he deliberately chooses works in his home town. Following on from I Made A Place and Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You, he again confirms his preference for understated arrangements and an organic group dynamic under the familiar banner of Bonnie “Prince” Billy.
Live, this translates to a focused and intense set in which new songs stand aside older work. A concert that focuses on attention, detail and the power of playing together, delivered by one of the most consistent and distinctive voices of contemporary folk and Americana.
“The most straightforward of Oldham's catalogue, and yet still rich with the oneiric and mysterious qualities that drew so many listeners to his art.” - Uncut
“Mystical, alluring and straight from the heart, We Are Together Again cements Oldham's reputation as a major force in the singer-songwriter tradition.” - The Wire
