Europe isn’t just this side of the continent; in the East, too, a huge amount of great and fascinating music is being made, which, sadly, doesn’t reach our part of the world often enough. We’ve already had the chance to discover plenty of musical gems thanks to festivals organised by our Liveurope partners across Europe, but our Slovenian sister venue, Kino Šiška (in Ljubljana – definitely pop in if you’re passing through), is keen to break down barriers and send interesting bands our way.

A year ago, we saw the trans-Balkan trio Lelee perform live and were immediately captivated by their melodic indie songwriting with a strong pop sensibility, wrapped up in a punk-style DIY ethos. The trio – Jelena Rusjan (vocals and bass), Damjan Manevski (vocals and guitar) and Miha Konrad (drums) – deserve their prominent place in the regional alternative music scene, thanks to their lively, exhilarating indie guitar sound and the interweaving of male and female vocals, Their fresh, harmonious and playful sound combines the legacy of 1980s Yugoslav new wave and the indie and slacker rock vibes of the 1990s with a distinct Adriatic flair, striking a balance between inventive arrangements and unbridled rock energy.
With hundreds of gigs under their belt, Lelee have evolved into a powerful, razor-sharp live band. In recent years, the trio have performed at many prestigious Eastern European festivals, but now it’s time to conquer the West with a ten-day European tour in January 2027, which will take them to ESNS in Groningen and Brussels, amongst other venues. We are proud to welcome them for their very first show in Belgium!

This evening features a double bill with Jelena Petošević – also known as Yelena or Lady Jelena – an intriguing singer-songwriter from Belgrade (Serbia), who has already gained considerable fame with hits such as ‘Nikola’, ‘Mala Danka’ and ‘Dole u mraku’ (from the popular local TV series ‘Močvara’).
Her musical expression is sweet and tender, yet deeply ironic: through witty and evocative songs, she paints a thought-provoking picture of a harsh, dystopian world. In the spring, Lelee and Jelena Petošević released their collaborative track ‘Igra bela mečka’ (‘The Polar Bear Is Dancing’) along with a matching, mind-bending music video, which they will hopefully perform live together.
