Enchanting, eclectic mix of piano minimalism and modular synths
Yann Tiersen returns with a solo piano and electronica concert in support of his new album Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour. Tiersen (Brest, France, 1970) is a Breton composer and multi-instrumentalist, known for his distinctive mix of minimalistic piano, folk traditions and experimental electronic soundscapes.
His music often explores the tension between loneliness and connection, between the natural world and human emotion, and has evolved from intimate instrumental compositions to large-scale, genre-transcending works. As a lifelong advocate for environmental awareness and community-oriented creativity, Tiersen has again defined what it means to tour and record in an age of climate urgency.
His recent projects, such as Kerber, 11 5 18 2 5 18 and Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour, combine piano minimalism with modular electronica – often inspired by his life and sailing trips off the coast of Brittany. Tiersen continues to explore themes like nature, identity and transformation, and invites listeners into meditative and deeply human worlds of sound.
Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour is an album consisting of two separate but connected parts, each with its own unique sound qualities. Rathlin from a Distance consists of eight introspective instrumental piano pieces. The Liquid Hour is a compelling, genre-transcending mix of electronica and dynamic psychedelic rhythms.
