‘Hope and Fury’
The unpredictable British musician Joe Jackson has plenty of great things in store for 2026. On April 10, his new album “Hope and Fury” will be released, followed by a major international tour with no fewer than three performances in Belgium.
Jackson is often described as a chameleon constantly changing styles, although he himself claims that most of his albums fit within a framework he has defined as sophisticated pop music with a mix of diverse rhythms and instrumental combinations. Yet he occasionally dares to deviate from that. In his most recent project, “Mr. Joe Jackson presents Max Champion in ‘What A Racket!’”, he humorously stepped into the shoes of a fictional artist from the Edwardian-era Music Hall.
With “Hope and Fury”, which he himself describes as “Bicoastal LatinJazzFunkRock”, Jackson returns to the present day and to his familiar musical playground with nine energetic tracks. After laying the foundation of the album in Berlin, Jackson and co-producer Patrick Dillett returned to Reservoir Studios in New York. There, he reunited with his regular musicians: bassist Graham Maby, guitarist Teddy Kumpel, and drummer Doug Yowell. Newcomer Paulo Stagnaro, a Peruvian percussionist, adds a Latin American touch to the whole.
The result is reminiscent of a cross between “Fool” (2019), “Laughter and Lust” (1991), and “Night and Day” (1982). Like those classics, “Hope and Fury” is full of catchy melodies, original lyrics, distinctive humor, and funky grooves, with vocals and keyboards more powerful than ever.
