On Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14, we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of our beloved label Bongo Joe with performances by The Space Lady, Lalalar (Gaye Su Akyol), Citron Citron, and more.
Les Disques Bongo Joe is an independent record label based in Geneva, Switzerland, founded in 2013. The label focuses on discovering and releasing unique and often obscure music from diverse underground scenes around the world.
Combo tickets are also available for this two-day event.
FRI 13 JUN The Space Lady
The Space Lady (real name Susan Dietrich Schneider) is a cult figure in the outsider music scene. She began in the 1980s as a street musician in San Francisco, dressed in a silver helmet with a red feather, performing covers and original material on a Casio synthesizer. In 2013, the label Night School Records reissued her music on vinyl (The Space Lady’s Greatest Hits), and since then she has been internationally acclaimed as a pioneer of outsider synth-pop.
SAT 14 JUN Lalalar
Lalalar (guitarist of Gaye Su Akyol) combines modern synth sounds with traditional Turkish instruments. Their latest album En Kötü lyi Olur (2023) translates as ‘at its worst, it will be good’. It is their “beacon of hope in our ever socially, politically, and climatically challenged world”. Everyday reality indicates that this is needed more urgently than ever. Highly explosive and danceable last time. Can they take the roof off?
FRI 13 JUN Citron Citron
Brother and sister, Citron Citron is the new sensation of the alternative scene in Geneva. The name of their band is a tribute to their late cat Citron, with a playful nod to their blond hairstyles that resemble two halves of a lemon. Their debut album, Chagrin Bleu, was released in October 2022. They drew inspiration for this album from the soundtrack of Twin Peaks.
