SAM COMERFORD PLAYS TOMMIE POTTS (SOLO)
Irish saxophonist Sam Comerford, who lives in Brussels, is no stranger in jazz circles. He leads Thunderblender (their debut Stillorgan is a gem!) and is part of Hendrik Lazure warm bad and Mobilhome. Comerford was also heard on Pourriture Noble by Zwangere Guy and Lander Gyselinck.
He opens for Trá Pháidín solo. Comerford: “I'm revisiting my past as an Irish traditional musician, playing solo tenor saxophone improvisations based around the music of traditional Irish fiddle player Tommie Potts of Dublin (1912-1988). Potts has been a huge influence of mine for years, he was the most avant-garde traditional musician in the history of the tradition and I'm taking it as a starting point to make new experimental music.” Exciting!

TRÁ PHÁIDÍN
“The whole thing sounds like Can and the Super Furry Animals and maybe Albert Ayler meeting in a field of megaliths.” - KLOF Magazine à propos de l’album An 424 de Trá Pháidín. ‘The whole thing sounds like Can and the Super Furry Animals and maybe Albert Ayler meeting in a field of megaliths.’ - KLOF Magazine on Trá Pháidín's album An 424.
Between rave reviews, spellbinding live performances and an ever-widening audience, the last two years have marked a real turning point for Lankum, ØXN, Landless and John Francis Flynn. The key to this success? Producer John ‘Spud’ Murphy, who has become a driving force on the Irish underground folk scene.
He has also lent his musical touch to bands such as Black Midi, Goat Girl and even jazz saxophonist Evan Parker. He now also collaborates with the nine-member Irish alternative folk collective Trá Pháidín (pronounced: Trawfawdeen). Their latest album, An 424, bears the stamp of this musical visionary.
KLOF Magazine: ‘On “An 424” Trá Pháidín make an impressively unified sound. It's a brilliantly diverse and highly original record incorporating elements of Irish traditional music, earthy psych, ambient, kraut, free jazz, post rock, field recording and just about anything else you care to mention.’
Trá Pháidín is performing in Europe for the first time. A real live experience!
