Winners of HUMO’s Rock Rally 2010 present debut album.School Is Cool, winners of Humo’s Rock Rally 2010, announce their debut with the single ‘In Want Of Something’. The band is currently putting all their efforts into studio work, with Reinhard Vanbergen (Das Pop) behind the dials. 15 songs in the track-list and busting to prove themselves, certainly after the delicious debut single ‘New Kids In Town’ that allowed us to hear that they'd studied the most stunning, exciting and agitating of indie-pop. You can also hear bursts of Pixies, Paul Simon, Kate Bush, Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend.
The band from Berchem launches its debut album in an exclusive avant-première at Pukkelpop on Friday 19 August 2011. Then we welcome them in the ABClub on Sunday 30 October.
‘It's young, fresh, new, infectious and above all it brings so much pleasure. The enormous chemistry between the band members is evident as of the first song’. (VPRO 3voor12)
A shared love of good songs, a warm sound and a nostalgic feel is what united the guys from You Raskal You. Atmospheric guitars, relaxed rhythms, frugal keys and a sporadically plucked banjo weave a comfortable carpet for the resonant night-radio vocals. Only just missed out on making it into the final of Humo's Rock Rally last year, even though their course did indicate that they're not the thirteenth Americana band in a dozen. They recorded their debut in an improvised studio in the pre-war Fort VIII in Hoboken (in collaboration with Scheld'apen) and 'Reverb Kisses' (Clown Shoes/Rough Trade) is indeed in stores now. The unique location and the relaxed vibe during and between the sessions give the album a spontaneous and organic character.
