Sarah Blasko bares her soul. Pure, intense & full of emotion
Sarah Blasko
Brilliant, bold, unpolluted and enthralling… The fourth studio-album by ravishing Australian Sarah Blasko has been swamped with superlatives. She headed off to Stockholm and Sofia for the recordings, had her charming voice accompanied by the 52-member ‘Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra’ and availed herself of the honours as producer. The result is an intense, intimate listening-album in which Blasko bares her seasoned soul. “Been searching everywhere for love, I've let it go, welcomed it in. I wear the scars upon my skin”, she sings sentimentally in title track ‘I Awake’.
In spite of star-status in homeland Australia, having a mantelpiece crowded with music awards (‘best female’ & ‘best pop album’), she's remained in the twilight here. Even so, she's already visited briefly as support to Peter, Bjorn (Yttling, producer of her previous LP ‘As Day Follows Night’) and John in April ’11 (Botanique) and she adorned the bill of Les Ardentes ’10.
With the delectable ‘I Awake’ Blasko is sure to swap the twilight for a place in the spotlight, starting with a –we anticipate it now already- consummate ABClub concert.
Lady Lamb the Beekeeper
23-Year-old American Aly Spaltro debuts on the Ba Da Bing! Records (Sharon Von Etten, Ex-Beirut) label as Lady Lamb the Beekeeper with ‘Ripely Pine’. “What Ripely Pine has is raw, credulous fire” writes the ever critical Pitchfork (7,8/10) and they surely are right! Spaltro sounds impassioned, full of fire and the mood swings typical of her lyrics are perfectly translated by her 'all over the place' explosive, exciting compositions. An opener that is sure to leave an impression…
