Surreal Brussels indie-pop
This event is part of HIP-HOP 50. AB is celebrating the 50th birthday of one of the most exciting cultures in recent music history. The programme includes concerts, talks, a podcast series, film screenings, workshops and more.
Robbing Millions, the band encompassing Brussels musician Lucien Fraipont, returns with a second album ‘Holidays Inside’. Almost five years after their rock-solid debut, we saw the release of a colourfully imaginative first single ‘Camera’.
Fraiponts road to Robbing Millions was just as winding as the structures of his music itself: he studied at a jazz conservatory in Brussels and has played in various bands in the city since then, including Aksak Maboul. While writing ‘Holidays Inside’, he found unexpected creative bliss in solitude. The man from Brussels recorded the entire album at home and then worked with producer Shags Chamberlain (who has also manned the dials for the likes of Weyes Blood and Drugdealer.
'Holidays Inside' will also be the first release on the new label of MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, MGMT Records (which had previously only released their own music).
“Lucien has achieved that rare balance of experimentation, technical proficiency, and extreme catchiness that makes for a truly exciting and surprising pop music listening experience.” – Andrew VanWyngarden
