Mark Van Hoen is probably best known for his Locust project, which has made a number of wonderful releases on R&S, Apollo and Editions Mego since the mid’90s. Under his own name, Van Hoen creates darker, more experimental electronic music that he supports with visuals. Van Hoen about the work he will present in Huis23: ‘The set will be improvised, but will be sonically similar to releases such as ‘Aurobindo:Involution’, ‘Truth Is Born Of Arguments’ and the more recent ‘Revenant Diary’. The video will be an intense selection of ‘found’ degraded VHS video with heavy processing and colorizations modified by way of the tones, textures and pulses of the music. The result envelopes the listener/viewer into a unique space that he/she may never have experienced before. Both the audio and video are created from a hybrid of digital and analog processing, and offer a mesmeric immersion into sound and vision that is informed by the last 50 years of electronic music and video.’ Our curiosity is already piqued.
