So much more than just the ‘daughter of’ – with a musical soul just as great
ConcertWhat a year Madison McFerrin has had! In April 2025, she gave an impressive Tiny Desk concert, followed by the release of her second album, *SCORPIO*, in June—an album that made an even bigger impression than her debut. She capped off the series with a guest appearance on Tyler, The Creator’s song “Don’t You Worry Baby,” from his surprise album *Don’t Top The Glass*, released in July. Her second album has a cinematic quality and provides a vibrant backdrop for McFerrin’s voice, which sounds both powerful and angelic. The album earned her countless covers in leading music magazines, accompanied by rave reviews.
The confident woman we hear on *SCORPIO* has risen from the ashes of a broken relationship. After years of struggle, Madison ended the relationship with her then-fiancé and manager. “We were supposed to get married today / but instead I’m here, all alone / in a house / with no one who’s mine,” Madison sings in the revealing track “I Don’t”—a song that, according to Billboard, conveys a feeling that lies somewhere between sadness and the euphoria of liberation.
Madison McFerrin sings her way through the various stages of heartbreak, with vocal agility and her signature, captivating harmonies (perhaps inspired by her father, jazz singer Bobby McFerrin). The album is meticulously arranged with layered vocal parts set against a backdrop of house, soul, and jazz, which never fail to captivate the listener.
