The female version of The Streets and Roots Manuva.
“Een revelatie.” (Focus Knack)
London's Kate Tempest is to be found at the intersection of rap, poetry and spoken word. Her breakthrough year in literary circles was ’13, when she won the prestigious Ted Hughes Award. A prize that is awarded in recognition of ‘the newest and most innovative work in poetry’.
Her latest album ‘Everybody Down’ could well be her musical breakthrough. Scroobius Pip and Saul Williams already took her along on tour and Public Enemy frontman Chuck D only managed to emit a “Wow!” upon hearing her rap style. Feel free to call her the musical version of Laura Dockrill (the best mate of Adele) or the female version of Roots Manuva and Mike Skinner (The Streets). Add to that a lucious London dialect and you know exactly how exciting Kate Tempest sounds.
