Husky soul voice inundates Europa with ‘Tribute’!
“This guy will be big”. We already declared the well-dressed John Newman to be the new golden boy of the British pop/soul circuit, before the summer. He started steadily climbing to the top of the European charts already with first single ‘Love Me Again’ (and his authentic husky soul voice) while debut ‘Tribute’ was still to be pressed. At the time, Newman mainly rang a bell as guest singer on Rudimental’s ‘Feel The Love’ and ‘Not Giving In’. A bit hit (‘Cheating’), a packed AB Club, a much praised album at pole position in the UK and a few tens of millions of YouTube views later and we can safely edit that statement: this guy IS big!
This chap was infected with the Stax- and Motown-microbe as a child, by his funk- and soul-obsessed mother, and Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye served as inspiration for the catchy tunes on ‘Tribute’. This 23-year-old jack-of-all-trades certainly has inspiration aplenty as, aside from writing top songs, he also puts together video scenarios, remixes his songs, and designs his own outfits in between too.
To conclude, a modest prediction… New single ‘Losing Sleep’, released in December, will flood our national radio stations once more. Did we already mention that John Newman is the new golden boy of the European pop/soul circuit
Our former Artist In Residence and favourite soul supplier, Delv!s, comes to compete for your attention as warmer-upper for John Newman. Niels Delvaux and company are busy working on a debut right now but take a break to come play a little in AB!
