BRDCST has an original way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a VU classic

BRDCST is AB’s outstanding indoor spring festival spotlighting musical boundlessness.
The name is a direct reference to the retro futuristic electronica-pop of English band Broadcast that released inspiring albums like ‘Haha Sound’ and ‘Noise Made By The People’ over the past decade. Artists who feel strongly about musical innovation form the focal point for BRDCST. Our musical gut-feeling does the rest.

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND – ‘WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT’: 50TH ANNIVERSARY
‘White Light/White Heat’ – the second, simply superb and influential, album by THE VELVET UNDERGROUND – celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018 . Whereas their debut ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ still emanated an apparent beauty, ‘White Light/...’ was bursting with anti-beauty. The album sounded outright radical, dirty and revolutionary. It was a flop…until the times were ripe for it. Rolling Stone recently placed the album in the top ‘500 Greatest Albums of all Time’ and Pitchfork rewarded the reissue with a 10/10-score. Basically: time for a (nocturnal) tribute!

BARST PLAYS ‘SISTER RAY’ (b)
With a listening-session and a concert! So we will ‘quasi entirely’ play the album ‘White Light/White Heat’ on a soundsystem that you can only dream of at home... and on vinyl. ‘Quasi entirely’? Yep, we'll be transforming the last track ‘Sister Ray’ into a real explosive live-version through transcendental atmospheric black shoegaze math noise drone band BARST. Uber-classic ‘Sister Ray’ is, by definition, The Velvet Underground's longest studio-recorded song - 17min 29 seconds to be precise – but BARST will be making a 40 minute (!) live version of it, with a +/- 7-member band that includes a bunch of guitarists.

So, Lou Reed, what was ‘Sister Ray’ about again ? ‘I like to think of ‘Sister Ray' as a transvestite smack dealer. The situation is a bunch of drag queens taking some sailors home with them, shooting up on smack and having this orgy when the police appear.’ In other words: a classic pop song . But then by VU standards.

Entry is free of charge according to the principle ‘First come, first served.’

This also applies to those with a Limited BRDCST Festival Pass.
