This is a part of
Black History Month
As part of Belgian Black History Month, we will be hosting 3 live broadcasts on the AB Facebook page, putting the spotlight on some very promising black talent. Some may have already made a name for themselves, either through A COLORS SHOW, by taking part in De Nieuwe Lichting or because they have previously graced the stage at AB. Others have not yet found fame, but are no less worthy of discovery. On the 17th, 18th and 19th of March, we offer a very warm welcome to our rising stars. On Thursday 18 March, we look forward to spending some time with IKRAAAN, WAYI and nanaKILL.
IKRAAAN wears her heart on her sleeve. The obstacles she finds on her path, and her deepest, most painful feelings are harnessed to form the inspiration for her music. Her singular debut EP ‘HAPPY PILL’ and consequent singles ‘Alleen', ‘COBRA’ and ‘WAAROM’ have established her as one of the most inspiring new voices in Belgian music. This self-proclaimed glitter princess is currently working on her debut album, which will see her claim the crown that is already rightfully hers.
WAYI is an R&B singer hailing from Antwerp. One of her biggest inspirations has been Alicia Keys’ ‘Songs in A Minor', but her latest single ‘Mind Mazes’, released last year, is more reminiscent of Mahalia or Destiny’s Child. She exudes nothing but warmth on stage - and take it from us that we will be seeing her on many more stages before long.
nanaKILL is still very new on the scene, but has already been dubbed ‘one to watch’. Her love for 90s R&B is evident in her soulful voice and compelling beats. Her latest single ‘FREAK’ - and the accompanying video - have certainly been on repeat in our office.
