30 ans de sensualité
Behold: a 'best of' Axelle's impressive 30-year career
Under the banner ’30 ans de sensualité’, Axelle Red is all set to celebrate her 30-year career this year. And does so backed by the famous Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra, which has long been the resident orchestra for Night of the Proms. She’s been around for three decades now. What artist can match that?
Axelle has sold more than 5 million albums, more than a million of ‘A Tâtons’ alone. ‘Sensualité’ was voted third most popular track of the ‘90s by the French, at a time when France still very much looked down on Belgian music. And yet, at every show, Axelle shouted “I’m from Belgium!”. The self-declared Fashion Victim also deliberately appeared in outfits – always equally ‘wow’! - by Belgian designers. Even before their world fame, this is how she introduced the likes of Martin Margiela and AF Vandevorst. Over 30 years, Axelle made a total of thirteen albums, on which she increasingly revealed herself to be a human rights activist and #MeToo advocate avant la lettre.
So Axelle, what can we expect? “It used to be really ‘veni vidi vici’! Look what I can do! Now I just look for as many ways as possible to really share something with the audience, to connect.” And let that be exactly what Axelle Red will put first during ’30 ans de sensualité’: the celebration of a 30 year career with all the songs that she is so loved for, together, in connection with her audience.
