Four young voices from Belgian post-jazz at the very first post-residency showcase
With the recent renovations at Steenstraat 23, AB is now also making room for residencies: a place where artists and collectives can immerse themselves, experiment and create. Open Choir Practice has the honour of kicking things off. As the first residents, they will be able to use the new spaces for five days and call on the AB team for support. During this period, they will have the time and freedom to further develop their practice, test ideas and collaborate in an inspiring environment. In this way, Steenstraat will not only be a presentation venue, but also a place for exchange, growth and artistic development. With this residency, AB underlines its ambition to actively support artists off stage and to provide space for processes that are not always visible to the public, but are essential for artistic development.
Open Choir Practice consists of four voices Willem Malfliet and Adia Vanheerentals already play together in groups such as Adia's Bodem and Willems Woolvs Large Ensemble. Abel Ghekiere is causing a stir under his own name with his latest album “In de verte, dit uitzicht” (In the distance, this view), and drummer Engel Peet has been very active in recent years as a musician in theatre and circus productions.
