Between soul, jazz and contemporary R&B
Concertanaiis is a London-based French-Senegalese artist whose sound blends neo-soul, R&B and jazz. Born in Toulouse, she grew up between Dakar, Dublin and Oakland. The work of artists and thinkers such as
Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, James Baldwin, bell hooks and Octavia Butler helped her find her own voice.
Her debut EP, Nina, was released in 2018. Since then, she has performed alongside artists including Erykah Badu and toured as a support act for Daniel Caesar and Mereba.
Her album Devotion & The Black Divine centres on the journey of coming home to oneself. The album explores identity, motherhood, knowledge and self-acceptance. On tracks such as Sunshine and P4P, joy and anger, pleasure and justice come together. Live, this translates into an intimate, warm performance driven by powerful vocals and live instrumentation.
“Her powerful voice soothes with words of affirmation over a soft, skipping neo-soul bassline.” (Crack Magazine)
