Now that the croquettes have been digested and the New Year’s receptions are coming to an end, it’s time to realise THE New Year’s resolution for 2023: attend more concerts!
So that’s why we’d like to present our spring calendar to you by means of a few tips.
Happy New Year and see you at AB!
Emiliana Torrini + The Colorist Orchestra - SAT 11 MRCH 23
There’s something magical about a good collaboration. Especially when two artists are able to “merge into one another” like the perfect symbiosis. No wonder then that the song ‘Right Here’ was ranked fifth Best Song of 2022 by The New York Times:
‘A plinking Minimalist pulse and a deft chamber-pop arrangement carry the Icelandic songwriter Emiliana Torrini through fond thoughts of hard-won but durable domestic stability.’
Togo All Stars - THUR 16 FEB 23
De Togo All Stars grooven door met een unieke mix van afrobeat, funk en voodoo ★★★★☆ – De Volkskrant
“ An excellent melting pot of voodoo funk and samba jazz... no other rhythm rolls out of the speakers here that is less than dastardly catchy... to listen is to succumb.” – Focus Knack ****
Fancy an evening of Afro-pop-beat-funk deluxe & voodoo vibes?
Son Lux - WED 21 JUN 23
"Record of the year" and "simply out of category" are just a few of the words of praise the press has had for Son Lux in recent years.
In full pandemic mode they released the Trilogy "Tomorrows" part I, II and III and more recently the soundtrack for the absurd drama film "Everything Everywhere All At Once". The film is racking up awards and has been nominated for several Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actress.
‘Son Lux delivers. Their soundtrack becomes our conduit across the multiverse, transcending and melding worlds otherwise alien to each other: sci-fi and kung-fu, hot dog hands and Debussy, slapstick and sincerity, mothers and daughters. The thrill of Son Lux’s score is in its audacious range.’ – Pitchfork
Fatoumata Diawara - WED 31 MAY 23
We usually situate Fatoumata Diawara in Mali, while she was apparently born in the Ivory Coast and is now equally at home in Europe. But the music of this songstress, guitarist and actress has its roots in the sounds of the Wassoulou region and has so since her debut ‘Fatou’.
‘Diawara is an adrenaline rush in human form. With her music and her dancing, she gave shape to one of the most energetic concerts you’ll ever see.’ – Dansende Beren on that concert at De Roma March 2022
Father John Misty - MON 6 MAR 23
Father John Misty’s haunting indie-pop sound is infused with lush romance and lyrics full of irony and sarcasm.
‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century review – pop’s funniest storyteller is back at his best’ – Pitchfork ****
CocoRosie - WED 28 JUNE 23
Sisters Sierra & Bianca Casady still form the creative hub of the indefinable CocoRosie. This duo has followed an impressive path since their debut ‘La Maison De Mon Rêve’ (from ‘04). They’ve collaborated with Devendra Banhart and ANONHI, and recently even with Chance The Rapper and with the Kronos Quartet. They’ve worked for prestigious venues like ICA (London) and The Sydney Opera House, and later this year they dive into the same boat as legendary theatre-maker Robert Wilson for his ‘Jungle Book’. Their latest album - ‘Put The Shine On’ – was released in 2020.
‘CocoRosie: Put the Shine On review: a return to core idiosyncrasies’-Pitchfork
‘The Casady sisters’ first album in five years marks a return to their maximalist tendencies, piling on drum machines, chintzy synthesizers, over-the-top raps, and nu-metal guitars.’- Pitchfork
‘The Casady sisters keep it precious and weird even as they explore more expansive pop sounds.’-New York Magazine
