VIP Boterhammen In Het Park & Feeërieën 2025
Selectress & black metal enthusiast
Soundtrack by… the turntable champions who set the scene for the night. Sometimes with a minimalist, ambient noise or deep drones in the background, sometimes with a maximalist, pulsing rhythm. But always with a true DJ heart, in the right place.
Serving up tunes on Thursday night is Monstera Occulta (BE). She describes herself as a selectress, SWANA-music lover (Google it!), black metal enthusiast (so are we!) and vinyl junkie (yep… so are we!).
Last year, she scored a veritable hat trick at AB with her excellent sets at Feeërieën (on the same nights as Lord Spikeheart and Mohammad Syfkhan) and at the AB Club during A Turkish Psychedelica Night after Altın Gün. Check out her mixtapes on SoundCloud and become an instant fan like us. The (dark) soundtrack for the night is in good hands.
Traditional Indonesian music reinvented through psychedelic rock by a Bongo Joe act (with members of Altın Gün and Jungle By Night)
The Swiss label Bongo Joe has long had pride of place in our musical hearts; AB has been graced by many of its artists, including Altın Gün, Baby Berserk, Chouk Bwa, Meridian Brothers, Meril Wubslin, Pixvae and Societé Etrangé.
This spring, we celebrated their tenth birthday with a two-day bash featuring splendid artists, including (Gaye Su Akyol offshoot) Lalalar, Cyril Cyril and The Mauskovic Dance Band. Previously at Feeërieën were Nyati Mayi & Astral Synth Transmitters and Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek.
We’re now adding the Amsterdam-based Nusantara Beat (NL) to that list. Often referred to as a supergroup, it includes musicians from Altın Gün and Jungle By Night. They all have one thing in common: their Indonesian roots.
3voor12: “Nusantara Beat explore their Indonesian roots by putting their own spin on traditional Balinese songs from the 20th century. They turn traditional Indonesian sounds into a supremely danceable psychedelic rock.”
Even with only three singles to their name, they were embraced by prestigious festivals such as Lowlands, Dekmantel, Le Guess Who?, Into The Great Wide Open and now, for the first time, Feeërieën.
“Afro-futuristic Congolese punk collective rooted in rumba music but influenced by the experimental, EDM-inspired Nyege Nyege Tapes scene.” (Pitchfork)
The Congolese collective Fulu Miziki (DRC) have ‘only’ two EPs to their name (Ngbaka, 2022, and Mokano, 2024), but their live performances have quickly built them a reputation. No wonder, then, that Gilles Peterson invited them to his prestigious festival We Out Here earlier this year, alongside class acts such as Michael Kiwanuka, Kokoroko and Noname.
They previously conquered Couleur Café, eliciting praise from Pitchfork, who described their sound as “rooted in the celebratory rumba music of their hometown but influenced by the experimental, EDM-inspired Nyege Nyege Tapes scene thriving in Uganda.”
The Quietus acknowledged their place in the illustrious musical history of Kinshasa among acts such as performance artists Ndaku Ya La Vie Est Belle and the techno-punk group KOKOKO!, referring specifically to Fulu Miziki as “one of the most intriguing of all these projects.”
