Wonderful ‘whisperpop’ from across the border
Our northern neighbours De Toegift head to the bandstand in Brussels Park for a captivating concert. Hailing from Vlissingen, the band is known for their poetic Dutch-language lyrics and a unique blend of indie, folk, and jazz.
With their second album kleine auto, grote hot wheel (February 2025) and singles like liefde is lang and alsof, they continue to shape their distinctive sound. Their live shows are warm, dreamy, and intense - think: whispery vocals, strings, flute, subtle electronics, and an audience listening with bated breath.
Brussels’ Vera Coomans more relevant than ever thanks to Canvas series Putain
Madou is back - though they never truly left - with Vera Coomans still shining at center stage. For some time now, she’s been joined by a new generation of musicians, including her son Thomas Devos. The born-and-bred Brusseleir revisits her classics and presents new work.
In the early '80s, Madou stood out with a unique, offbeat sound and timeless songs like Witte nachten and Niets is voor altijd. Today, those tracks sound fresher than ever - partly thanks to the haunting soundtrack of the Canvas series Putain, which has introduced Vera to a whole new audience.
