Smoking, straight-up Swedish garage-rock.
Third time lucky. So we figured – following previous, exciting visits in ’04 and ’07 – it was time to have The Hives complete their AB hat-trick. Nice timing too, as they’ve just recently released their fifth album ‘Lex Hives’. This one checks in at barely 30 minutes and returns to the successful garage-rock formula of (breakthrough album) ‘Veni Vidi Vicious’ (from ‘02) and ‘Tyrannosaurus Hives’ (from ‘04).
The Hives are a sensation, especially live, with singer Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist as figurehead. Spin Magazine on that: “one of the best live rock bands in current music”. If you should happen to have doubts: be sure to take another look at the perfect piece of evidence: DVD ‘Tussles in Brussels’ from ’05, a live recording of their concert here in ‘04.
Whopping opener will be America’s hardcore punk band The Bronx, who have frequently performed as Mariachi El Bronx in recent years. Basically: pretty impressive special guests.
