Ozark Henry plays his 20 year old uber-classic ‘Birthmarks’ in its entirety
◄◄ REWIND
In 2007, AB launched a timeless series: ◄◄ REWIND. Central to this series are Belgian artists who perform ‘their classic’. Call it a milestone in their career, or more so: a key album in Belgian pop music. It is often – but not always – about albums that are etched into collective memory. Call them points of reference in the Belgian music landscape. So, in other words, each ‘pièce de résistance’ is performed in its entirety. Completely? That’s right, in the exact order that the artist wanted (or still wants) to tell his/her tale.
With ◄◄ REWIND, AB also contributes to the activation of Belgian musical heritage. Already passed in revue:‘The Ideal Crash’ (dEUS ), ‘The Kids’ (The Kids), ‘Op Zoek Naar Romantiek’ (Guido Belcanto), ‘Jonge Helden’ (Arbeid Adelt!), ‘Gorky’ (Gorki),‘1981-1984’ (The Neon Judgement),‘Royalty In Exile’ (The Scabs), ‘Nooit Meer Drinken’ (Raymond Van Het Groenewoud), ‘De Mens’ (De Mens), ‘The Ship’ (Luc Van Acker), ‘Un Ball Dans La Tête’ (De Puta Madre), ‘Hè Hè’ (Jan De Wilde), ‘Laïs’ (Laïs), ‘Struggle for Pleasure’ (Wim Mertens) en ‘Little Things Of Venom’ (Arid).
Ozark Henry plays ‘Birthmarks’ (2001)
Ozark Henry’s ‘Birthmarks’ is twenty years old and that – yes, you can hear the drum-roll resound from afar – must be celebrated! And rightly so! As ‘Birthmarks’, the third album by the brain-child of Piet Goddaer, is (not coincidentally) the most successful Ozark Henry album. No surprise there, as there were no less than 5 singles taken from this album: ‘Rescue’, ‘Sweet Instigator’, ‘Seaside’, ‘Word Up’ and ‘Intersexual’.
At the time, Piet Goddaer called this album his ‘all or nothing’ album. It clearly became all. ‘Birthmarks’ went platinum and stayed in the Ultratop Album charts for – brace yourself – more than 90 weeks. Anno 2020, to do that you need to sell 20,000 copies. In 2001, that was 50,000. It also yielded Piet Goddaer a coveted spot on stage at Rock Werchter and two sold-out ABs, something quite exceptional at that time.
As a part of the ◄◄ REWIND series, Ozark Henry will perform his entire classic ‘Birthmarks’ (with a series of encores on top of that, of course).
