Exclusive Niveau4 try-out on the eve of Couleur Café
Since 2016, Niveau4 has been the place where the Belgian hip-hop scene meets up and proves itself. From emerging artists to acts that have already made their name known internationally: Niveau4 brings the most relevant players of the moment together in one show.
Whereas last year the energy was mainly to be found in the dancers and the movement, this year the music is focal. The full band formula is back, with a pianist, drummer, bassist and guitarist supporting the artists live. The entire set becomes more intense, more layered and more focused on the musical story. Set design also plays a major role and helps to get the vibe just right. This year it’s all about the essence of live music: pure performance.
Niveau4 remains a hip-hop platform at heart, but it looks further afield than ever. The scene’s influence doesn’t stop at rap: in addition to hip-hop, R&B and afro, this year we will also present influences from pop and Latin. Different styles and different sounds, but together forming one solid whole.
K1D
K1D is still a master of effortlessly switching between laid-back and high-energy. He hasn’t stood still this year: a collab with Yung Mavu dropped out of nowhere and proved how strong the two sound together. Last year, it was Mavu who appeared at Niveau4, this year it is K1D who takes over the Green Stage with his signature flow and sharp delivery.
Camille Yembe
Camille Yembe has written and sung for others – on features or behind the scenes – so often that you could almost forget that Plastique is her first official solo single. But if you’ve put on a French-language playlist in recent months then there’s a good chance that you’ve heard her voice in passing. Her style is a fresh mix of pop and R&B. Her presence is only really done justice live.
K.ZIA
Berlin put our Brusselian on the map, but K.ZIA crossed our country’s borders long ago. Her latest project Twin Flame provided further proof of her versatility: she plays with R&B, afro, amapiano as if she’s never done anything else. Anyone who has seen her live knows that she effortlessly draws the audience in with her mesmerising voice and stage presence.
Gotti Maras
Gotti Maras first began making noise with his BX Drill freestyle series, demonstrating how Brussels gives its own twist to drill. Since then, he has firmly established himself in the scene, with a recognisable style that perfectly interprets the street energy of our capital. His tracks are being picked up more frequently and he performs live with the intensity that you would expect from him. Niveau4 will be his moment to prove that once more.
Bryan MG
Everyone wants a Bryan MG feature. Whether it’s Dopebwoy, Kempi or a new generation of artists: his sound and melodies are sought after in Belgium and The Netherlands. Even Hulk from JMF (who appeared at Niveau4 last year) brought him onboard for Sensibility. Everything that Bryan MG does, makes him a steadfast presence in the afro and R&B scene. Whether it’s in clubs, on TikTok or streaming charts: he dominates. Live, he lifts everything to the next level.
Drea Dury
Drea Dury’s Colombian roots are audible in everything she does. She moved to Brussels for her studies and continued to make music here, but her sound still exudes the influences of her homeland. Afro, Latin trap and R&B blend effortlessly, but always with a South American flair. Her shows are as energetic as they are intense. This will be a show where you won’t stand still for a second.
