We have #moreincommon than that which divides us
This is a free event to honour Jo Cox. Doors open at 16:30.
“We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than that which divides us”. Jo Cox
This Wednesday, 22 June, 2016, Jo Cox MP would have turned 42 years old. Our gift to her, her family and all those who loved and cherished her, will be to come together to show the world there is more that unites us than divides us.
Events will be held in several locations simultaneously, including her home constituency of Batley and Spen, London, Brussels, New York, Washington DC, and Nairobi. The coming together of thousands of people in love and solidarity with Jo proves the strength of her ideas and values.
A major event will be in Trafalgar Square, London at 16.00, where supporters will come together to celebrate what Jo’s warmth, love, energy, passion, flair, Yorkshire heritage and belief in the humanity of every person in every place, from Batley and Spen to Aleppo and Darayya.
Both a celebration of Jo’s life and a collective calling to action to give a voice to the voiceless and to treat everyone with respect and dignity, especially those we disagree with.
The event in Brussels will take place at the Ancienne Belgique at 17h00 CET, coinciding with events around the world.
The programme will be announced in the coming days, but will include friends and colleagues who share Jo’s belief in the goodness of humanity, representatives of causes she supported, as well as musical tributes.
Jo lived in Brussels for several years up to 2004 working for Glenys Kinnock MEP and for Oxfam. She loved the city and has many friends and colleagues here.
Further details of the events and logistics will be shared when the programme is confirmed.
Meanwhile people from around the world have been donating to Jo Cox’s Fund https://www.gofundme.com/jocox
