A Brooklyn resident born in Lima, Peru, Maria Chávez is known as ‘abstract turntablist’, sound artist and DJ. Coincidence and failure are themes that unite her sound sculptures, installations and other works with her solo turntable performances.
Aside from her performances, Chavez regularly gives readings and workshops about sound art, improvisation, multi-channel-speaker installations, and turntablism.
The impressive list of performances, expositions and residences that she has had in the past is summed up on her website.
