La Madeleine, that American French-woman with the breath-taking voice. Those who have already heard her are immediately reminded of Billie Holiday (or Bessie Smith, or Patsy Kline... that timeless class.) Here for the first time in the ABClub in '97, and has since made a fine round of local concerts like Klinkers and Blue Note Gent. Still only three albums to her name, but each and every one of her CDs are to be treasured, from beginning to end. 'Dreamland' from '96, 'Careless Love' from '04 and 'Half The Perfect World' from '06 let you hear splendid covers of the likes of Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen: 'The Heart Of The Saturday Night', 'Dance Me To The End Of Love'... But also remarkable versions of 'Everybody's Talking', 'La Vie En Rose', 'J'ai Deux Amours', 'La Javanaise' or that purging 'I'm Allright (I've Been Lonely Before)'.

Her new CD should be out in March 2009: 'Bare Bones', with the collaboration of producer Larry Klein, Walter -Steely Dan- Becker and Joe Henry and out here via Universal. She can do it alone, this girl that was discovered in streets of Paris. But this time it is actually the great lady Madeleine Peyroux and band!
