A rare evening with a visionary artist and musician
ConcertThis concert is organized in collaboration with and at Pilar.
Since the late 1970s, Lonnie Holley has dedicated his life to improvisation. What began as an artistic necessity has grown into an impressive body of work that effortlessly blends music, visual art, film, photography, and performance.
Holley grew up in Alabama during the Jim Crow era and transformed an often-harsh life story into art that feels both personal and universal. His work draws on found objects and forgotten materials, which he transforms into powerful stories about memory, identity, inequality, and resilience.
His music, too, is created entirely in the moment. Every concert is a unique, improvisational journey where soul, spoken word, blues, gospel, and experimental sounds converge.
On albums such as *Oh Me Oh My*, he has collaborated with artists including Bon Iver, Michael Stipe, Moor Mother, and Sharon Van Etten. His most recent work reaffirms his status as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary American music.
Don’t expect a traditional concert, but rather an immersive experience where past, present, and future converge. A rare opportunity to see an uncompromising artist at work who has been blurring the boundaries between art and music for decades.
