Balthazar-brain makes solo debut with minimalistic R&B
Jinte must have thought Kill your darlings: contrary to his colleagues (Warhaus – Zimmerman), he steps into an entirely new musical adventure, away from his characteristic guitar and ditto harmonies. J. Bernardt stands for modern, minimalistic R&B with touches of electronica and soul. He describes it as ‘a mixture of The Doors via Edith Piaf to Daft Punk’, although Chet Faker and James Blake are never far removed.
First singles ‘Calm Down’ and ‘The Other Man’ are of an international standard, bathed in a delicious synthesizer-groove and tight electronic drums, in which Jinte even presents himself as charismatic crooner. Live, he is assisted by Adriaan Van de Velde – the brain behind Pomrad – and Klaas De Somer (drummer with Tourist LeMC and Pomrad). Dancing is allowed!
