g a b b r o is the changing collective around Hanne De Backer with which she tries to explore the impact of improvised music on the environment and vice versa.
For example, g a b r o has already organised concerts and recordings in sewage systems, toilets, a prison and along the Belgian coastline in the company of a camel (As We Walk, 2023).

In October 2024, g a b b r o will leave Brussels for the eponymous and mysterious village of Gabbro, in Italy. Together with drummer Casper Van De Velde, Hanne De Backer will travel through five European countries while improvising and filming. Along the way, they met musician friends and made numerous recordings on the spot. One of these musicians is Raphael Vanoli, a guitar hero living in Amsterdam but originally from the Vosges. The trio found themselves in the middle of the forests near Bühl in France, recording until the autumn sun set.
Back in Belgium, they delved deeper into the music and made collages with the field recordings made during the trip. The result is a fourth album: g a b b r o 's GROUNDSPEED. A musical road trip along misty paths and rushing motorways, an exploration of elusive sounds and recognisable melodies brought to you by three curious and experienced travellers.
