Top improvisation collective presents new album
Nicolas Mortelmans is a Belgian sitar player who studied with - among others - Anoushka Shankar. In April 2024, he released his debut album “MĀYĀ” on WERF records, with which he did a club tour at home and abroad and played at festivals such as Gent Jazz and Sfinks Festival. This autumn, Nicolas will release his second album “SPACE”, which will be released on Rotkat Records. For these recordings, he dove into the studio with Roland van Campenhout, Stef Kamil Carlens, Tim Vanhamel and Simon Segers. The result of this musical encounter is a raw, spontaneous and honest record where all the music is improvised. With this, Nicolas returns to his roots and experiments with psychedelic rock, ambient, funk and jazz. The album will be officially presented at ABClub. Improvisation is the guiding principle. With top musicians like Tim Vanhamel (guitar & electronics), Stef Kamil Carlens (bass) and Simon Segers (drums) and the unique sitar playing of Mortelmans himself, it promises to be an intense, meditative and explosive concert.
