South Indian via London, now very global with 'Ghost Gamelan'
Very fascinating singer from London, with parents from Southern India. At home all over the musical world, which we noticed already with previous projects. Her latest CD on Naïve/Believe will now be 'Ghost Gamelan' and it is indeed 'ghostly gamelan' with that typical Indonesian percussion under the direction of Gondrong Gunarto (who won’t be present at this concert). A bit less 'Bhakti' or 'Sufi' inspiration for a change? Susheela has continued in this same vein after performing 'Tomorrow Never Knows' by The Beatles as 'gamelan track’. Now also with excellent own material.
In the press The Guardian: "Susheela Raman is that rarity; a true innovator"
AB fun fact First time that she drops by (but we can still hear echoes here, of that Moondog Gamelan from last year)
Fun fact Gamelan also influenced 'smart western music makers from Debussy, Messiaen, Philip Glass and Steve Reich to Sonic Youth.'
