Madensuyu not only insisted upon adding a classical section and inviting an Iraqi party band to their Suyu Makinese Fest (the name refers to their record label) but also upon screening ‘Rabot’. Not surprising really, as Madensuyu provided the soundtrack to this documentary by Christina Vandekerckhove.
‘Rabot’ is an honest portrait of the vulnerable and underpriveledged people who lived in the renowned Rabot towers in Ghent that are now being torn down. They are the remains of a social experiment from the 70’s with a fairly short-sighted concept: place all the underpriveledged in a residential tower on the edge of the city and then pretend they don’t exist. ‘Rabot’ shows the outcome of this approach.
