French progressive metal volcano spews fireballs on ‘Magma’

Metal monster Gojira (Japanese for Godzilla, one of the best known Kaiju of Japanese mythology) really earned its band name with ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ from ’12 (those drum parts in the title track!). “Gojira’s best work to date. Acrobatic guitar lines and rhythmic shifts capable of inducing whiplash.” (Pitchfork)

Successor ‘Magma’, their sixth issue (via Roadrunner – June ‘16), confirms their status as one of the world’s most exciting metal- and rock-acts around. There are swarms of comparisons with metal milestones like Metallica’s untitled album (the black one from ’91) and Mastodon’s ‘The Hunter’. Intergalactic riffs combined with an impressively grooving drum and songs, real songs. Something that extreme metalbands sometimes forget.

Oh, and this four-man splinter bomb with fuse in the hands of the Duplantier brothers (drums & vocals/guitar) is like no other, live. Just saying…

Warning: Smoking Ban

Since 1 January 2006 it has no longer been permitted to smoke in public places, so not in AB either. After consultation between AB and the Federal Department of Public Health, Food-Chain Safety and the Environment, there will be a number of inspections carried out in the AB over the coming months by the Public Health department.
