Giovanni Di Domenico & Tetuzi Akiyama

Facebook event Share Tweet

Improv evening with 2 masters of the genre

Two important players of the contemporary improv scène enter into a unique collaboration. In the AB Salon they will each play a solo set and then cross swords as a duo.

Tetuzi Akiyama was previously a part of Keiji Haino’s Nijiumu, he worked together with artists like David Sylvian, Oren Ambarchi, Yoshihide Otomo & Jozef Van Wissem, and he is one of the pacesetters of the adventurous current Japanese improv-scene. Aside from his mastery on guitar and violin, he also plays various self-made instruments.

He played a duo-concert with Alan Licht at the AB Salon in 2016.

Giovanni Di Domenico is, as jazz pianist/improviser, no stranger to the Brussels (and international) avant-garde scene.  As improvisational musician, he has developed an encyclopedic technique in which rhythm, harmony and tone are influenced by non-western traditions. It’s all about an approach that he shares with very many musicians and those with whom he has previously worked, including the likes of: Chris Corsano, Jim O’Rourke, Akira Sakata and Tetuzi Akiyama.

Aside from his solo work, he is particularly known for his work with Brussels band Going, he runs the label Silent Water, and he is one of the driving forces behind the artist collective Studio Grez.
