American singer-songwriter with Joni Mitchell allure!
In a full to bursting Salon at the AB in early '17 (then still 'Huis 23'), that’s when we saw/heard this confirmed: 'The 26-year-old Courtney Marie Andrews is a young singer-songwriter from Phoenix. She’s been writing music since she was 14, which eventually led to her debut album ‘Urban Myths’ in 2008. Since then, things have only gotten better career-wise: four wonderful albums, rock solid shows and supports for the likes of Damien Jurado, amongst others.
The American turned out splendid country folk songs on her sixth album ‘Honest Life’ (2016, Loose Music), raw and sometimes slightly Americana. And no, that comparison with Joni Mitchell is not misplaced.”
For fans of That’s right: Joni Mitchell, plus Handsome Family, Milow (with whom she has already worked)
In the press 'Het album klinkt in elk geval eerlijk: we horen klassieke country- en folkballads die breekbaar dwingende, donkere verhalen vertellen, met snijdende zinnen over alleen zijn (‘I’m like a tethered ball you can never catch/ You were my only friend’)... Ze heeft een mooie, heldere sopraan en schrijft goede songs. Voor fans van Emmylou Harris en Iris Dement.' - De Standaard on her recent album 'Honest Life'
Fun fact Finally, a song called 'Irene' for a change!
