Tokyo resident and ambient sound-artist Chihei Hatakeyama works in both his own name and as Opitope, the electro-acoustic duo with Tomoyoshi Date.
Hatakeyama started out making soundscapes by continually manipulating acoustic instruments (vibraphone, guitar, piano, … .). In recent years he has also made use of analogue synths, a modular system and various effects.
His first release was the album 'Minima Moralia' in 2006 on Kranky. Since then he has had work out on labels like Under The Spire, Hibernate Records and Room40.
