Africa Is/in the Future invites us to an afternoon of music and conversation
ConcertAs part of Africa Is/in the Future, Conversations soniques brings together three artists whose practices explore the connections between sound, memory and forms of knowledge. At the intersection of artistic research, oral traditions and contemporary musical expression, this gathering invites us to consider sound as a space for exploration, transmission and reflection.
Through The Anomaly Index, Nkisi explores sonic phenomena that resist explanation and classification, examining, among other things, archives of the paranormal and forms of knowledge that emerge from the inexplicable. Dumama, a South African musician, composer and sound poet, weaves together personal narratives, oral traditions, voices and electronic experimentation to question prevailing representations of the sonic culture of southern Africa.
The gathering will take the form of a reading and a moment of reflection with Nkisi and Dumama, followed by a live performance by Oriana Ikomo. This Brussels-based artist has a distinctive musical universe, blending delicate melodies, ambient textures, jazz influences and minimalist R&B, carried by a voice that is both gentle and assured.
A moment to listen differently, share perspectives and explore what sound allows us to imagine beyond what is immediately perceptible.
