“We make pop music for minorities, outsiders, and extraterrestrials"
To say that AB and Blixa Bargeld (DE) share an intense bond would be a pretty big understatement. Not because BlixA BArgeld – you have to want to see it – has AB hidden in his name twice, but mainly because we’ve run out of fingers on which to count his visits.
The mothership Einstürzende Neubauten (DE) has already moored at AB eleven (!) times. If you include his collabs with Italian composer Teho Teardo in 2013 and 2016, and with (avant-garde) electronica master Alva Noto in 2011 and 2012 under the moniker ANBB, he has actually clocked up fifteen (!) shows at AB. And then we haven’t even mentioned 9-15-2000, Brussels, a double CD containing a complete recording of the Neubauten concert at our very own AB for the release of their masterpiece, Silence Is Sexy.
Enter 2026, when Einstürzende Neubauten will perform at BRDCST. They will bring the festival to a thrilling close with the alien pop music that has been impressing audiences for more than four decades now, from their debut cassette Stahlmusik in 1980 to their latest issue Rampen (apm: alien pop music) in 2024.
Finally, a few apt quotes. Focus Knack about a previous AB concert: “After more than 40 years, still overwhelmingly unique.” And The Quietus: “I dare you to name another band this deep into their career still expanding their palette to such an extreme degree.”
