BBC sound of 2012 hip hop alumnus
ConcertNasal flow, languid beats, it's all in the DNA of Rakim Mayers, better known as A$ap Rocky. The BBC included him in the ‘Sound of 2012’ chart, and that in the good company of Michael Kiwanuka, Azealia Banks and Skrillex. This 23-year-old rapper from Harlem won the hearts of many hip-hop-heads via the internet. ‘LiveLoveA$AP’ is the mix-tape that he dropped onto the net in 2011 and which catapulted him into the blogosphere, after which he signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Sony/RCA label. ‘Peso’ and ‘Purple Swag’ are now huge hits … date in the AB on Monday 11 June.
Extra support-act will be female rap-duo THEESatisfaction. Their Sub Pop debut ‘awE naturalE’ was canned with the assistance of Shabazz Palaces. According to De Standaard, we've gained “yet another fine new offspring of the hip-hop renaissance” in the form of female rappers Stasia “Stas” Irons and Catherine “Cat” Harris-White.
