For our podcast Guestlist, Stubru presenter Rik De Bruycker goes behind the scenes at AB.

Whether they perform rock, punk, hip-hop, slam poetry or avant-garde, some artists deliberately choose not to take part in the mainstream.  

Together they form the underground scene, from which (every two years) a few bands are offered a stage during The Sound Of The Belgian Underground in AB.  

How do artists earn a living in the Belgian underground and why don’t they follow the beaten track of the music industry? 

We asked Victor De Roo, synth-wave producer and the man behind the Kontakt label. And Dushime, who wants to create ‘a space of sound’ within which to connect people, with her experimental music/performance. 

And, will it be easier for indie artists to do their own thing in the future? Rik De Bruycker talks to Jan Pauly, head of the expertise hub at VI.BE about new revenue models such as Bandcamp Web 3.0.
