One year of empty promises

One year ago, our government promised to finally take action against Israel. The Palestine Agreement came after months of protest and unprecedented mobilizations with more than 100.000 people on the streets.  

Today, the Israeli genocide and occupation continue unabated. After three years, the toll is heavy: more than 75.000 Palestinians killed, of which 20.000 are children. 70 percent of Gaza is directly occupied by the Israeli army. Almost all buildings have been destroyed and lie in ruins. In the West Bank, settlers are given carte blanche to sow terror on a large scale.

Despite that promise from a year ago, Belgium is taking still no harsh sanctions.  

Sanctions, now

11.11.11 calls on the Belgian government to finally draw the red line and take decisive sanctions:

1  Implement the September Agreement fully and immediately. That means, among other things: a watertight and comprehensive ban on all trade with Israeli settlements, and the recognition of the Palestinian state. No half measures, no further delay.
2  Prohibit investments that help maintain occupancy. The International Court of Justice already ruled on 19 July 2024 that the occupation is unlawful. Belgium must convert that ruling into a national investment ban.
3  Create a national sanctions mechanism so that Belgium can impose national sanctions (entry bans, the freezing of assets, and a ban on financial transactions) against persons and organizations that commit serious human rights violations. 
4  Impose a ban on the purchase of Israeli military equipment. As long as the occupation and war crimes continue, our country may not purchase military equipment from Israel.
5  Exclude involved companies from government contractsCompanies involved in serious violations of international law in occupied Palestinian territory are no longer allowed to participate in government contracts and public procurement.
