Tinariwen has been that mesmerising Assouf band encompassing Ibrahim ag Alhabib for over forty years. After more than 6 years, the pioneers of Tuareg blues finally return to AB again, where the band will present its new, very impressive, album ‘Amatssou’ (Wedge).
The collaboration with Daniel Lanois brightly highlight the musical kinship between Tinariwen’s Sub-Saharan desert blues and authentic American roots music.
The press about Amatssou:
- ‘Woestijnblues in americana-sfeer.
- ‘The desert rockers, whose big-name fans include Jack White, are still militant but more approachable on their latest album. There’s also a female presence on the wonderful final track “Tinde”, where melismatic female voices float over a thunderous waltzing rhythm played on hand drums. It suggests that Tinariwen’s all-boys club is opening up, and all the better for it.’ – Uncut Magazine
