Spiritual gem from South London brings smooth R&B album to Brussels.
Joy Crookes is a British-Bangladeshi singer and songwriter from South London, known for her warm soulful voice and lyrics that touch on both personal and social themes. She became widely known through songs such as “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” and “When You Were Mine”, which brought her mainstream success and a BRIT Award nomination.
In September 2025, she released her second album Juniper, where she explores themes of love, identity, and mental health with a more intimate and experimental sound blending soul, R&B, and jazz.
On Monday, November 24, she will present this album live at AB!
Read here how the international music press received it:
- ‘Sadness made sublime by streetwise soul and snappy wit.’ ★★★★☆ – The Guardian
- ‘Juniper is the evolution of everything that made Crookes special in the first place: urgent commotions of layered instrumentation, heartfelt soul-pop lyricism with sprinkles of dry wit (“I shine and you get sunburn / That sounds like a you problem”, goes a particularly satisfying jibe on ‘Pass the Salt’) and her timeless, bluesy vocals that powerfully intertwine the personal with the political.’ – Rolling Stone
- ‘She tells tales of the happiness and fear that comes with falling in love, mental health struggles, queer love and anxiety against a backdrop that blends R&B, soul and jazz seamlessly in the style she’s made her name on. ‘Juniper’ is an album that reflects growth, is a testament to Joy’s inner strength, and one which places her lyrical prowess centre stage.’ – DIY Magazine
- ‘Known for her nuanced introspection, the South London crooner digs deeper into her own identity with unapologetic honesty’ - NME
