From the frontier of the New World: back at AB!
Praised by NPR for their “sprawling, cross-cultural indie rock,” Calexico has spent the better part of the past three decades exploring the dusty musical borderlands of the American Southwest, crafting singular, cinematic songs as mysterious and magnificent as the arid desert landscapes that inspired them.
Calexico will play at AB on Friday 13 May. Buy your ticket here!
Their 10th studio album, El Mirador, written and recorded alongside Sergio Mendoza, is out now!
“El Mirador is dedicated to family, friends and community,” Calexico’s Joey Burns says of the band’s latest project. “The pandemic highlighted all the ways we need each other, and music happens to be my way of building bridges and encouraging inclusiveness and positivity. That comes along with sadness and melancholy, but music sparks change and movement.”
The press about 'El Mirador':
- ‘Calexico has always represented a fusion of southwestern musical cultures. In many ways, they have created their own genre that some have dubbed “desert noir.” This truly is the best way to describe Calexico and definitely suits this album!’ – New Noise
