Australian singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts is coming to AB on Friday September 19 with his New Love Tour, in honour of his long-awaited seventh studio album, self-titled New Love.
Ziggy Alberts is not only a talented singer-songwriter, but this free spirit also has a unique life journey. Did you already know this about Ziggy Alberts?
· He was partly homeschooled until the age of 13
Ziggy grew up on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and only saw the inside of a classroom at thirteen, after being homeschooled for years.
· He didn’t want to become a musician at first
As a kid, he wanted to be a dentist or an engineer. Music came into his life spontaneously when his parents gave him a guitar.
· Busking and independence are his foundation
In 2011, he started busking along Australia’s east coast. Shortly after, he and his family founded his own label — Commonfolk Records — to retain full control over his music.
· Cool combination: music and surfing keep him balanced
Surfing is not just a hobby for Ziggy but an essential part of his creative process and life. He says that surfing helps him stay grounded, while music keeps him moving.
· Millions of streams and prestigious music awards, all independently
He has collected more than 1 billion streams, and his album Laps Around the Sun reached ARIA Double Platinum. He also won multiple APRA Awards for Most Performed Blues & Roots Work (2022 and 2024) — all without the support of a major label.
Want to see Ziggy Alberts live? You can on September 19 at AB. Tickets are still available!
