'April Uprising', that will be the new CD. On Sunday 18 April, he'll finally be in the AB: John Butler with his steaming Trio. The magical formula? Driving drums, upright bass and John Butler himself on his dobro slide guitar. Feel free to think of Ben Harper, Dave Matthews, Xavier Rudd, Jack Johnson, even of his friend Michael Spearhead Franti... This Australian is in good company, both musically and as far as mentality is concerned. His artistic journey was one worth following: from 'busker' alias street-musician, via self-released cassettes and an organically grown 'fanbase' to financial successes and diverse 'awards'. But especially: an unbelievable live-reputation, with a unique mix of blues, reggae, country & folk, funk, rock and hip-hop, plus wonderful, sing-along social-involvement. So where did it all begin? He inherited his 'vintage' guitar from his grandfather (who he never knew) and the film 'O Brother, Where Art Thou' sent him in the right musical direction. In the meantime we're still listening to that freshly swinging '(You Could Be) Better Than (That)' from his latest 'Grand National' CD. The John Butler Trio? Big, with roots!
