Ill Considered feel strongly about freedom. Structure is experienced as oppressive, while wit and energy prevail. The result? Free jazz à la Pharoah Sanders with hearty bursts of afrobeat, Ethio-jazz and echoes of grime and dubstep. Shabaka Hutchings is a fan too, and already invited them to the famous Le Guess Who? when he served as curator there in 2018.

Their output is so extensive that we’ve now lost track, but their latest album Precipice was again loaded with ****-reviews. Trouw: “In the live-recorded improvisations of Britain’s Ill Considered, you can hear the fire and fervour of the free jazz of the sixties”. Or De Volkskrant: “When Ill Considered’s mighty sax threatens to go off the rails, the equally great rhythm section has their back”.
