TOUT VA BIEN (be)
A performing name forced itself upon him when Jan Wouter Van Gestel hastily took part in De Nieuwe Lichting in 2013. He rather sarcastically chose Tout Va Bien, but in retrospect the words turned out to be rather prophetic. Thanks to the likes of a brilliant interpretation of the Jacques Brel classic ‘Ne Me Quitte Pas’, the man from Mechelen was one of the winners of the first edition of StuBru's talent competition in 2013 (together with Rhino’s Are People Too and Soldier’s Heart).
All was still going well, back then, but it actually got much better! The single ‘This Fight’ is an earworm that camped in the national charts for weeks and his first longplayer is now a reality: ‘Kepler Star’ (out since April ’15 via Warner Music), produced by Arne ‘Styrofoam’ Van Petegem. An album full of moody songs in which the singer-songwriter flirts with Radiohead, James Blake and – closer to home – Oscar & The Wolf. By the way, the Kepler Star is a supernova, as in: the "super"variant of a nova or new star. Wonderfully tongue-in-cheek of Van Gestel, one of the new stars in the Belgian musical heavens!
