Subbacultcha and Ancienne Belgique present the 2nd edition of the unique festival ‘The Sound Of The Belgian Underground’. On 31 January 2016, Belgium’s cultural platform presents ten national acts from the alternative circuit together on stage at the AB in Brussel.
Since its creation in 2011, Subbacultcha has been promoting the most progressive independent music and art of the moment. The organization has found an ideal working model to already support fascinating acts from local and foreign soils in an early stage, with the assistance of its membership, monthly magazine and concerts.
Under the title ‘The Sound Of The Belgian Underground’, Subbacultcha! and AB collect local musical talent that is active on the fringe; bands that focus on artistic freedom and not necessarily the public at large.
Various Belgian labels will have a stand in the Agora.
The 2016 selecetion is:
Mittland Och Leo
The music of Different Fountains hangs somewhere between cold techno and exotic pop. Founders Michael Langeder (from Austria) and Bernardo Risquez (from Venezuela) have found the happy medium within a melting pot of diverse rhythms.
Orphan Swords blows an icy wind of grey techno-noise in your face. This is the stuff for lovers of Pete Swanson and Vatican Shadow.
He is wild, pretentious and ill-mannered. The 18-year-old rapper Wulfy Benzo is in your face and ready to conquer Belgium in 2016.
Roman Hiele plays his synths as if he’s the legendary jazz drummer Gene Krupa. The producer from Antwerp is inventive, keen and unstoppable. Hiele effortlessly flashes from gabber-house via acid-house to footwork.
Graphic designer and sound-artist Mathieu Serruys made one of the most romantic albums of last year, in the form of ‘On Germaine Dulac'. Serruys’ music is the perfect soundtrack for a morning walk on a misty mountain pass.
Youff sounds like a whirlwind. Armed with a guitar and drum, the tandem from Ghent presents destructive noise.
Cocaine Piss is a group of deviants from Luik that has made furore with their impetuous punk. Feel free to hail it as the ultimate antidote to the contemporary load of R&B crooners.
Primitive, that’s how you can best describe Shetahr’s music. The trio from Brussels presents pop-music, but then in a wild and clumsy way. That sounds pretty refreshing.
Mittland Och Leo
This duo from Antwerp is described by Dennis Tyfus as the casio dreamteam. Mittland Och Leo’s dreamy synth sounds glide softly between the minimalism of Kraftwerk and the repetitive drum rhythm of Suicide.
